There is a small neighborhood in the southeast corner of Crawford County, between Manilla and Manning, Iowa, where one man—Stan Ewoldt—was considered family to everyone lucky enough to know him. Our neighborhood was filled with horses, not just as a pastime, but as a way of life.
Horses brought out a friendly competitive spirit through local fun shows, but more importantly, they brought our community closer together. They taught us to slow down, appreciate the journey, and enjoy the simple pleasure of a ride down a quiet county road.
Stan had horses of his own and a deep passion for sharing them with others. Whether he was teaching someone how to ride, giving buggy rides in local towns, or bringing his horses to care facilities, his purpose was always the same—simplicity, connection, and bringing happiness to others.
He helped teach neighborhood kids how to ride and how to drive horses, but most importantly, he helped shape our character. The bonds formed between Stan and those kids remain unforgettable and live on in our hearts.
The bond between Stan Ewoldt and Derrick Janssen is where what is now Janssen Family Belgians truly began.
